Cold and Flu Season is Here: Beware and Take Care
You knew it was coming; you felt a slight chill in the air and dread started to creep up. Suddenly your coworker is mentioning their allergies and their sinuses have gone wild. It’s here: cold and flu season!
As sickness surrounds you this time of the year, we’re here to help you through it. We’ve compiled our best tips to keep you germ-free and healthy.
1. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more.
This is a crucial way to prevent the spread of viruses and bacteria. Every time you shake hands with someone, get that soap and water ready. Doing this prior to eating also prevents any of the harmful content on your hands from getting into your mouth and on your food. We all love finger foods, but please do this before you grab that mozzarella stick.
2. Avoid touching your eyes and mouth.
Germs can easily infect you through your eyes and mouth, so don’t give them the chance to. Wash your hands first if you need to touch your face.
3. Don’t bite your nails.
Your fingers touch hundreds of surfaces per day, gross right? With every touch, germs get packed underneath your nails. Biting them then transfers those germs into your mouth, allowing them to infect you. If this is a habit for you, put on a no biting clear nail polish.
4. Make a good sleep schedule.
Sleep is essential for us to function properly every day. Not only will sleep deprivation make you sluggish, but it can also comprise your immune system, which makes you more susceptible to getting sick. Aim for seven to nine hours each night to keep your defenses up.
5. Work out.
Working out is great for your cardiovascular system, muscles, and more. Staying fit also boosts your immunity and helps you manage your stress levels, which is important for staying healthy this season.
6. Eat a healthy diet.
Get your vital daily nutrients from fruits and vegetables! Just like working out, eating right can have benefits for not only your weight, but also your immune system.
7. Stay hydrated.
Stay hydrated by drinking a lot of fluids, especially water. Drinking fluids flushes toxins out of your system and keeps you healthy. Shoot for six to eight glasses of water per day. If you do happen to get sick, staying well-hydrated is just as important to recover.
8. Avoid people who are already sick.
Keep your distance if someone is coughing or sneezing. Likewise, if you’re sick and contagious, go rest at home to stop the spread to anyone you may encounter.
9. Always keep hand sanitizer handy.
You never know when you’re going to need it and it’s good for those times when you don’t have access to soap and water. If you are out and about, keep a bottle in your bag or pocket to eliminate germs on the go. Our 2oz hand sanitizer gel is perfect for this. Find it here!
